The Doctor did understand that it was difficult for people to leave their own lives, and he wouldn't have asked Owen to do that, but it had been Owen who wanted to come with him. So he assumed that Owen did want to, and that he wasn't upset about leaving anything behind. Besides, the Doctor did have a time machine. If Owen got tired of him and his TARDIS, the Doctor could take him back. That wouldn't be a problem. Although he knew it wasn't that simple to go back into a day to day routine after a life of going to random places whenever, wherever.
He still had some doubts, but he ignored them and smiled at Owen as the TARDIS came to a stop... somewhere. They could deal with this later, he didn't have to think about it. He didn't want to think about it. For now, they could just have fun.
"Alright." he nodded, patting Owen's shoulder lightly and pointing over towards the doors.
"You ready to see where we ended up?" he asked, briefly wrapping his arms around Owen's waist in a grateful hug and then letting go.

Owen nodded at the Doctor before slowly walking towards the door which seemed to be further away then when he had first seen it, just because he wanted to get out of it. The medic couldn't help but grin as he was nearing the two doors, he was going to see something amazing it could just be another place on the Earth or on another world or even in a different time period. Which ever one it was it would be fine with the male, unless it was Cardiff then he might be annoyed.
He reached the door and let his hand press against it before taking a few deep breaths. He gave it a little push before pushing it harder, making the door swing open. The medic was behind the door when he opened it so he returned to the now open space where both doors had been. He then stepped out of the ship, looking left to right at the place that they had landed on.
He looked down to see that his feet were still on land, so that was good yet the ground was more like mud, Owen lifted his foot up and the wet mud slopped to the floor. He then lifted his head up to observe the location, the sky was blue. bright blue actually which made the male frown, it almost looked like someone had painted the sky. The medic then let his eyes search around his normal eye level. They were surrounded by trees and bushes, plus lots of other plants that Owen had never seen before although they zoomed up wards, some of them were as big as a series of vertical flats. The colors were amazing there was every color there plus colors of colors, it was strange and for Owen it looked alien.
"Where the hell are we?" he asked with a frown although he was grinning too. Owen then turned to make sure that the Doctor was with him, after all he didn't want to lose him and end up being left on his own. He walked a few feet into the green, looking for a clear way into the forest when he heard a sharp noise. He instantly went for his gun and aimed it at the location where the noise had come from. He was protecting himself and the Doctor, he didn't know where they were yet so they needed to be careful at least.

The Doctor looked over at his coat on the rack, considering picking it up but decided he wouldn't need it. He crossed quickly over to the coatstand, delving into the pockets to grab his sonic screwdriver and psychic paper, stuffing them into the pockets of his suit, along with the TARDIS key. Looking back over, he hurried after Owen so he could leave the TARDIS at the same time, just in case there was anything dangerous through the door.
"No idea." he replied, jumping onto the ground with both feet and grinning hugely "Zip. Not a clue. No idea where we are. Isn't that great?"
He stuffed his hands into his pockets and rocked on the balls of his feet. He loved not knowing. Finding out was all part of the adventure.
He strode along at Owen's side, turning his head sharply when he heard the noise too. Sighing slightly, he placed his hand on Owen's gun, giving him a pointed look. He hated guns, and he was sure if there was anybody out there, they wouldn't particularly like being threatened.
"Put it away." he advised, peering out around them, trying to see where the noise was coming from.
"Hello?" he called out in a calm, kind tone "Anybody there?"

"Sorry"said the medic as he put his weapon away. A noise for Owen usually meant a weevil or something just wanting to rip your throat open so he had got used to pulling out his weapon at the slightest sound. He knew that the Doctor hated guns, he remembered when he had kicked his under the bed, well he assumed it was him as he found it underneath the bed and no one else had been in his room.
He wasn't too worried that the Doctor didn't know where they were as they could get away anytime plus they could find out. If there was any other life that spoke English. Then again they could call in their own name like, Docwen or Owter. He laughed as he tried to make their two names fit together, failing miserably.
Owen stood beside the Doctor but did a quick look of their surroundings marking the exits and entrances in his mind. Again this was almost automatic he just wanted to make sure that they were safe before they were left completely defenseless. He returned his stare to the sound of rustling again but no one came into view.
The medic decided to focus on a tree close to them which had different colored leaves hanging from branches that touched the ground. However they were normal leaves, half were a golden type color however it glowed red every so often while the rest were square shaped and a cream type color. Owen blinked as they all changed to make a green tree with oval leaves and branch that stood up wards. As soon as he looked away it turned back into its weird shape yet when the male looked again it changed into what he would call a tree. The male laughed as he watched it change, it was like it fitted what his brain was thinking.

The Doctor nodded in approval when Owen put his gun away. The Doctor himself was never armed. If you readied yourself for conflict, conflict usually found you, and he didn't believe that fighting was the answer. It was never the answer.
Distracted from the noise, the Doctor glanced in the opposite direction to the one Owen was looking at and blinked in surprise at the sight of a tree with fluttering silver leaves. He closed his eyes, looking away and then quickly opened them before the shape had a chance to react.
"That's amazing." he said aloud, walking towards the tree to examine it more closely, tilting his head from side to side to see if it had any effect.
The only trees he'd ever seen that looked like that... were on Gallifrey. He pulled his sonic screwdriver out of his pocket, scanning up and down the tree.
"Fascinating. There isn't actually anything there. Nothing alive. Only the slightest traces of mass. It's just... just a trace, a hint of being, that is clever."
He leaned forwards, one hand outstretched to touch the silvery trunk. His hand connected a second too late, as though his spatial awareness had somehow been affected, and the surface of the tree was solid but slightly soapy in texture. He leant in curiously, licking the trunk and considering.
"Just a little bit alkaline."

"You think the noise was the same?" he asked with a frown as he saw the Doctor lick the tree "I expected to hear something so it happened?" It seemed to be a good theory although the other male had been to a multiple of different worlds so he was far better at this then he was. "If I'm right, someone made this place to react to peoples norms and their minds"
Owen stared at the tree which the Doc was licking, it remained silver although it flickered green as though it was trying to remain its color yet produce what Owen had seen a tree as. He walked closer making it flicker to green and silver faster. It couldn't make up its mind and in the end Owen had to turn away as it made his eyes go funny, returning the tree to silver and the Doctors thoughts.
He liked this place it seemed peaceful although he wanted it too be so maybe it remained that way. Owen felt for his gun to make sure it was there, this place seemed to be too good to be true although he felt calm there, there was still something nagging him in the back of his mind.

"Could be... If it can create visual illusions it makes sense that it can work with sound as well. But the question is: what's the source? There's some kind of... oh, underlying telepathic consciousness?"
He licked his lips, considering the soapy taste. It was definitely materially there, he could taste it. He inhaled the air thoughtfully, trying to see if he could smell anything.
"See this?"
He pulled the psychic paper out of his pocket, holding it out to Owen.
"Slightly psychic paper, tells you whatever I want you to see. It's a basic principle, my people used it all the time. But here, we're being shown what we want to see..."
Which worried the Doctor slightly. There was so much he wanted to see, so much that he'd lost. Oh, it was all well and good when it was cheap tricks with trees, but where did it stop? Was it just on such a simply superficial level? And what, if anything, was underneath the illusion?

Although neither men knew what the other was thinking Owen was along the same lines. He however was just wondering that if this was an illusion of what they wanted to see then then what had the Doctor licked? He didn't really want to think about it to be honest so he calmly walked to the Doctors side and stared at the paper.
"So how is that going to help us?" he asked with a frown until his eyes sparkled "Could we reverse what the illusion is by using your paper, maybe it could undo it as you want to see whats underneath the illusions?" Owen liked the idea and he was glad that he had met the Doctor that day, he was enjoying every minute of it as it offered a different kind of adrenaline to what the male got from torchwood.
Owen then spun around as he stared at the TARDIS, which was still in the same spot, maybe they couldn't case an illusion to that. He then realized how this place worked and made his self believe that they couldn't, that way it wouldn't disappear or get taken away. "Who did all this?" he asked out loud instead of in his head "This doesn't look like Kansas Dorothy" As soon as the word left his lips, the tress and forest like structure disappeared causing them to be a sandy farm house with a tornado coming straight at them blowing panels at the group.
The medic ducked as one gradually missed him then yelled at the Doctor. "Maybe you can try that paper now and hurry" he yelled. He didn't think that they would get taken to this place after all it was only a novel yet it still happened so it had to be an illusion. Although the tornado felt pretty feel and he didn't want too take any chances.

The Doctor glanced down at his left hand, slightly paranoid that it was going to shimmer and fade into something new. He didn't know what the boundaries of this place were. If he could touch and taste, then they could essentially be harmed by this place. It could play tricks on them, trap them. The Doctor didn't want to get caught out by assuming that they were in control.
He looked down at the paper and considered the psychic range. Could he use it like Owen suggested? He didn't know if it was strong enough, to be honest. It was just a flashy piece of equipment, good for showing off and getting in places, helpful but useless.
He kept Owen in his line of vision for fear that if he forgot about him even for an instant, he might disappear in the Doctor's own illusion. He really didn't want to start doubting reality.
"Maybe somebody was here before us." he suggested.
He'd been wondering himself why there was already a world waiting for them if it was all so variable.
As Owen spoke, he felt a slight shudder in the landscape as it transisted into something that almost definitely was Kansas. Well, a mirage of Kansas. The Doctor's eyes grew wide, grabbing onto Owen's shoulders and holding onto him as he stared. Above them, he watched the TARDIS spiral towards the hurricane, and he could feel the wind hitting him fiercely.
"The paper can't deal with something as big as this, I need something more!" he shouted over the roar of the wind.
Knowing he was going to regret this, the Doctor took a deep breath and conjured up the strongest image of a safe place he had.
"There's no place like home." he said softly as the landscape changed into a field of red grass fringed with more silver trees, two suns hanging in the orange sky.
He felt a lump rise in his throat at the illusion, reminding himself that it wasn't real.
"The illusions are getting stronger. Before, we could only change little parts of the original image. Now we can change the whole thing. It's tapping deeper into our subconscious. Try not to give it anymore to go on."
If they weren't careful, sooner or later the tables would turn and it would be able to change them.

Owen produced a scared look as the Doctor said that the paper wouldn't work. "Oh thats just great" he muttered. Owen gently shoved the Doctor out of the way as a lump of sand came flying towards them. Then his mouth opened in shock as the TARDIS got thrown into the tornado. "Shit" he yelled running towards it, suddenly the whole location changed as the Doctor must of thought of a safe place.
The medic amazed walked forward, touching the red grass and admiring the silver trees. It looked amazing and completely beautiful although a little weird at the same time, he loved it. "What is this place?" he gasped. Owen walked through admiring it until he saw the Doctors face at the scenery. He made his way back to the man and looked into his eyes. "Its your home, isn't it? I'm sorry" he said softly. It didn't take a genius to work that out as Owen could tell by his face. He didn't know what it was like to lose a home, a world and he couldn't imagine it heck he didn't want too.
The male slowly nodded as the Doctor spoke. "So how do we get rid of these illusions" he asked. To be honest the illusion it was good for him but not for the Doctor. "You want me to imagine something else and put it in overload? Thinking of one thing and another"

"Gallifrey." he said "No. An image of Gallifrey."
He looked down at the long red grass, just as he remembered it, and then up to meet Owen's eyes.
"Yes. This was my home."
But not anymore. He'd had to destroy it, to save the universe. In the end, Gallifrey hadn't been the haven he'd always imagined. But this vision he'd conjured was the planet of his youth, when he'd been a young boy. This was how he chose to remember his home.
Glancing around, he spotted the TARDIS a few hundred yards away, safely standing among the trees, and relaxed slightly.
"No." he told Owen quickly. "No, the last thing we want to do is become part of the fabric of reality. If we keep changing things, our minds might become interwoven with the platonic metaphysical illusion, and we really don't want that. That would make us part of the landscape, we'd change along with the illusion if anybody else came along."
Which would be bad. He remembered the horrible feeling when aboard the planet Midnight, and the creature that, through imitating him, had eventually become him, using him as its puppet. This was different, but not so very different.
He considered the question of what to do, frowning slightly and shifting from foot to foot, smacking the psychic paper thoughtfully against his hand.
"We-ell, if we're going under the assumption that there's some kind of psionic transmitter projecting our thoughts onto our surroundings, then there must be some kind of wave frequency, which, theoretically we could reverse to stop the system and remove the illusions to show us what's underneath, but... how?"
He hopped from foot to foot, running his other hand through his hair.
"How? Think!" he ordered himself, frowning in concentration as he forced his mind to follow a logical path, gathering consequences.
"Thoughts create images, and... it's visual, no! No, completely sensory! Thoughts create matter... which means thaaaat..."
He smacked himself on the forehead, gazing at Owen in delight.
"Owen Harper, you're brilliant! You had it all along! Oh, I could kiss you! But later, I'm working."
He looked at the psychic paper in his hand, considering the possibilities of using it in order to reverse the process.
"Cognito ergo sum!" he said with a broad grin "I think, therefore I am! But not all my thoughts are made visual, that would be insane! My head's full of stuff! It'd be like a Bosch painting in 4D. No, there's some kind of filter at work, and if they can filter our transmissions, we can filter theirs!"
He held the paper out to Owen.
"Hold one end of it. This is a psychic filter, it tells people that I'm somebody I'm not, like a fake ID. If we both focus on channelling our thoughts into the paper and only the paper, none of our conscious thoughts will get anywhere near the atmosphere and BAM, system failure!"

While the Doctor worked Owen looked at the scenery around the pair, he saw the TARDIS among the trees, funny how it landed upright, it should of landed sideways. Suddenly the ship flipped to hits side with a loud crash. "Shit Sorry i mean upright, it lands upright" Again the ship turned up ways otherwise they wouldn't of been able to get in.
Owen took a step back as the Doctor got excited and said that he had the answer all along. "I did?" he muttered gently. Then the Doctor told him that he could kiss him the medic blushed and then grinned. "I will remember that kiss you owe me" laughed the male. He then noticed that they might be being watched so he kept silent.
The medic realized what the Doctor was doing and grinning as he took hold of the paper letting his thoughts enter it. As soon as the paper was connected to the pair the room began to change. It was like the scenery got drawn into a vacuum which was sucking up the color as it all turned suddenly bitch black and cold. Owen felt a drop of water fall from the invisible ceiling although it was pitch black so he couldn't see a thing. It sounded like they were in a cave although they couldn't see.
He went for his gun with a small smile glad that he had added a light setting to it so that it could shot a beam of light. He quickly searched for the Doctor and clung his hand to the mans waist so that they wouldn't lose each other. He then took charge and looked around the room, holding tightly on the Doctor to keep his safe. "There has to be a way out" he said gob smacked as his voice echoed through whatever they were in.

"Owen!" he scolded as the TARDIS fell over "Never thought I'd say this to a human, but stop thinking!"
As he'd hoped, as soon as the two of them held onto the psychic paper, the scenery began to disappear. The Doctor kept his eyes closed, both to concentrate on letting his thoughts flow into it, and also so as not to read Owen's thoughts which would be displayed as text on the little piece of paper. He had no intention of reading Owen's mind.
"Ha. Literally mind reading." flashed up on the paper as he thought the words in his head.
He waited until everything was pitch black, and then pulled the paper away and pushed it back into his pocket. Cautiously, he thought about sunlight. Nothing happened.
"We've turned it off. Or put it on standby or something." he murmured.
He grabbed his sonic screwdriver, using it as a torch and taking hold of Owen's free hand so he wouldn't lose him in the dark.
"Out? Why would we want to get out? No, we want to get in." he said "Because in this case, I have a feeling that in is out. We have to figure out what's controlling the illusion patterns."

His hand connected with the Doctors and he let it, it was easier that way, Owen knew what it was like to get lost in the dark. To be honest it wasn't good at all, you began to see weird shapes and hear strange noises before you nearly froze with fear. The male saw the device that the Doctor was holding, he still didn't know what it was called. "What is that thing?" he asked with a raised eyebrow.
He then shook his head, this wasn't the place to ask questions they had enough already. Owen led the way with his gun out in front of both men for their eyes and their protection. "Ok then get in not out" he added with a grin and a roll of the eyes. The medic looked around carefully as he walked, getting colder and colder.
Owen spun round as he heard a noise and saw a shadow run into the darkness, the medic squinted and let go of the Doctors hand. "Stay here" he whispered before entering the darkness. Without warning his gun was thrown out if his hand and hit something hard as it made multiple thuds and it fell to the floor. The medic then found himself being thrown to the floor before a white light shone in the darkness, nearly blinding him.
He covered his eyes and when he took his hand away he saw the figure that had pushed him over. It was a female dressed in what looked like to be a blue sparkling swim suit although it was covered in shards of ice which stuck out on her shoulders. She had dark blue hair and a pale colored face with two piercing blue eyes staring at him. She held a small staff which was also blue although it had strange symbols spiraling round it.
Owen took his eyes off to look at the room, it had dark ridges in the sides and it looked like a cave although there was ice hanging from the ceiling. "Doctor" he called, hoping that the male was ok as he didn't know what to make of the female who stood there with glaring eyes.
The female didn't show an expression as it grabbed hold of Owens neck and pinned him against the wall before looking at the Doctors. "Who's he?" she hissed through teeth as a chilled breath came from her mouth chilling Owen. "Mine"gasped the medic as he breathed for air. She just sighed and dropped Owen to the floor who landed with a thud before she took a few steps towards the Doctor glaring at him.

"It's a sonic screwdriver. It's a screwdriver, and it's sonic. But it works as a torch too." he said, holding it aloft and grasping tightly to Owen's hand with the other.
The Doctor didn't like the dark. Especially since he knew that there was good reason for the seemingly irrational fear that most beings had of the dark. But now didn't seem a good time to tell Owen that there existed creatures who lived in the dark and could eat the very flesh from a person's bones in seconds.
"No, don't..." he murmured urgently as Owen let go of his hand.
Lifting the sonic higher, he tried to see where Owen had gone, or even what Owen had seen to make him run off as the Doctor hadn't noticed anything.
Everywhere was pitch black, dark entirely. Where was Owen? He took a step forwards and blinked, finding himself in a brightly lit cave. Looking back, he could still see the darkness he had come from, like a wall of black. He curiously swung his arm behind him in an arc, watching it disappear into the black and reappear as he pulled it out.
"I'm here." he said to Owen, taking a few steps forwards to reach his side, and gazing at the woman.
She wasn't a species he recognised, but this whole planet was new to him. Maybe he had heard of it, but he hadn't been here before, he was certain of it.
"Hello!" he said brightly to her with a smile of greeting "Sorry for bursting in on you like this."
